When you upload a file, it will be stored on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), a decentralized storage network that distributes your file across many computers, ensuring it remains available and resistant to censorship. At the same time, a unique cryptographic hash is generated from the file’s contents. This hash acts as a digital fingerprint, guaranteeing the file’s integrity—any change to the file will result in a different hash, so you can later verify that the file hasn’t been tampered with.

Step 2: Pin Your Document on IPFS

Upload & Hash Document.
- Click “Upload & Hash Document” to pin the file on IPFS.
- Pinning means we keep a copy of your file on IPFS indefinitely, so it’s always available—even if your computer is offline.
- Why? Your document is now decentralized and tamper-evident—any change produces a new IPFS hash, revealing any forgery.

Pinning Fees & File Size Limits:
- Files up to 0.5MB: Free
- 0.5MB – 5MB: $1
- 5MB – 20MB: $2
- 20MB – 50MB: $5
- Note: Files over 50MB aren’t allowed. You’ll see a PayPal payment prompt if your file is above 0.5MB.

Step 3: Install & Fund Your Wallet

Set Up MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet.
- Download MetaMask (mobile or browser extension) or the Coinbase Wallet app.
- Securely back up your secret recovery phrase in multiple safe places.
- Add a small amount of ETH to cover blockchain gas fees for the Ethereum mainnet.

Why? MyLockChain uses smart contracts on Ethereum. Your wallet address will hold ownership of the on-chain registration for your documents, ensuring only you can record or prove authenticity.

What is Gas?
Gas is the fee you pay to process and record transactions on the Ethereum blockchain. Every time you make a transaction—such as registering your document’s hash—gas fees are required to compensate the network's miners (or validators) for validating and executing your transaction. Without gas, your transaction would not be processed, and your document would not be registered on the blockchain.

A small ETH fee is required to record your document hash on the blockchain. This ensures tamper-proof authenticity and makes your record publicly verifiable.

- This action will store your document's hash on the Ethereum blockchain, creating an immutable record.
- Why? Registering on the blockchain ensures that your document's authenticity can be verified at any time.

Step 6: Save Your Transaction Receipt & IPFS Hash

- Store it in a safe place. It proves exactly when your file was pinned and recorded on-chain.
